Wonder In Wood

Christmas was always very special, having a German mother, Christmas was always a magical time of year. Socks would be hung on the bottom of the bed and or the mantel piece in the hope that Santa would visit. The excitement waking up to find Walnuts, Gold Chocolate Coins, Clementine’s and maybe a small gift was a delight. Going into the sitting room on Christmas morning, the first sight is something that has stayed with me. Overnight the room had been transformed, from just a handful of Christmas cards on the mantel piece and now a couple of socks bulging with goodies. In front of the window a wonderful Christmas tree, decorated bottom to the very top where an Angel sat looking down. How my parents ever managed to do it all after my sister and I had gone to bed I’ll never know. The air was filled with the scent of fresh pine from the tree but something else too. On the mantel piece a little wooden house puffing smoke from the chimney, a wonderful scent, which to this day reminds me of Christmas. My love for these little smoky pieces grew and grew and grew. Going to Germany every year, running out of room for more pieces of my own, after the reunification of German. In the late nineties I decided to give it a try and see if I could sell them. Hence “Wonder In Wood” was formed. Our customers soon gave us the title of the “German Christmas Shop”
